Intro to the role:
Fulcrum is currently working with a VR business in Australia who are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Technical Artist to build a better future. The client is a technology and data insight business specialising in the intersection between immersive experiences and haptic technology with the aim to bring medical devices and surgical procedures to market using virtual reality.
They are happy for workers to be based from the Melbourne CBD office or remote.
Your Role
They are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic professional to join their team, taking on responsibility for bridging the gap between the artistic and development teams working on their VR experiences. You will work closely with the rest of the art team, the engineers, the medical, educational and design team to produce realistic, immersive content. You will enjoy the support of your colleagues and the open culture, where what they learn from failures is as important as their successes.
What You Will Do
- Help develop the artwork, tools, techniques and pipeline for the products
- Produce game-ready, optimised artwork & effects in a realistic style that is suitable for VR runtime
- Help mentor more junior members of the team
- Work with the team to analyse the visual requirements of projects and provide effective solutions
- Engage in collective responsibility for maintaining a high-quality product
About You
- You have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar technical artist role within the VR industry (or adjacent industries such as games, simulation, or MR/AR tech) with multiple commercial projects completed
- You have deep knowledge of Unity, and other game engine experience is a plus
- You have excellent knowledge of the different render pipelines, graphics programing (HLSL/CG), graphic performance foundations and performance profiling
- You have programming skills using C# Unity scripting and OOP
- You have deep knowledge of 3D/2D creation packages (e.g. Maya/Zbrush/Photoshop/Substance etc) to support the technical demands of modern art content creation. Broad experience in developing technologies (e.g Houdini, Marvelous Designer) is a plus
- You have up-to-date knowledge of the latest tools and techniques in 3D art, PBR shaders and rendering, physics simulation and optimisation for real-time game engines
- You have strong experience in supporting artists, optimising assets, supporting asset pipelines and approaching a wide range of unique real time technical challenges within 3D packages or Unity
- You have experience conducting in-depth performance analysis and generating actionable insights for both art and engineering teams
- You have a proven track record of both artistic and technical creativity, with a passion for working with teams and solving problems
- You have experience in evaluating and defining technical art requirements for others to follow
- You have a strong eye for detail and understanding of colour, light, structure and form
- You are a self-starter who actively engages in the art & optimisation requirements for each project, helping identify the areas that need your attention – this excites and motivates you
- You like to do everything to a high standard but know when to be pragmatic
- You are highly collaborative and an excellent communicator
- You do not hide problems, mistakes or failure, but rather learn and develop from them
Benefits
- Competitive salary package
- Flexible working arrangements
- Professional development opportunities
- A supportive and inclusive culture
- Regular team building and social events
