How often do you catch yourself telling someone you aren’t really good at something? “I’m not good at sales,” “I’m not a swimmer,”-bet if you tell people that you’re not a swimmer, one thing you’re probably never swimming. Then there’s the “I wish I could sell, or be a swimmer, but I’m just not.” You wouldn’t tell your friend or partner they’re always bad at something, so why do we say that to ourselves? And how much is that limiting us in ways that we may not even realise? Below is a blog I’ve written about this topic and I want to share it with you as it can help you look at sales from a new perspective.
We kid ourselves.
We often speak to people who say, “I can’t sell” or “sales just isn’t for me.” Well, I want to let you in on a little secret… we’re all born with the ability to ‘sell,’ in fact we’re all selling something every day, so much so that we don’t even notice it.
Unconvinced?
Imagine this; you ‘re at home or at work and you’re asking your friend, partner, colleague to make a cup of coffee and they’re saying no. I’m going to bet you’ll automatically start to convince them why they’re supposed to make you a cup of coffee, or how they’re going to benefit from making this coffee so they can do it. Sound familiar?
I bet some of you can relate, or maybe I need more friends who willingly make me a cup of coffee…
It can be applied to just about anything.
Think of that fantastic restaurant , bar, gym class or maybe even that app you’ve discovered you don’t know how you’ve lived without before. How many people have you talked about these wonderful experiences and have insisted on why they have to try it for themselves? It’s like you’ve become a salesperson for that shop, bar, café without even noticing it and I bet you’re a great one because you really recommend it, and that naturally makes you passionate when you’re talking about it. People can see that and they also want this feeling.
Whether we like it or not, we are all salespeople
The decision we can make though is on what we’re selling, and what is going to make us excellent at getting others onboard too is about whether or not we believe in what we’re selling.
Many salespeople we speak to have been attracted to this path because we love interacting and connecting with people in particular, and if we are good at showing someone how they can add value to their lives, why wouldn’t we want to? So, the main challenge is just in finding what you back, then I believe you can be unstoppable.
I’m not only talking about in a career either.
In order to relate you do not need to be in Sales.
Essentially, you sell your personal brand in some way every day. Whether it’s a job interview or in a group of friends, back up yourself or your cause and see what’s going on.
Sales techniques and learning sales steps are all fantastic tools to reinforce this notion, all you need to think about is PASSION for now!
So stop being afraid to’ sell’… you ‘re not going to become pushy, it’s just sharing something you believe in with someone else. When you do this passionately, people will buy into you and what you sell.
How cool is that?
“When you speak with passion, people buy you and what you are selling!”
